Royal Huisman, founded in 1884 is a family-owned builder (and refit and repair facility [1]) of unique custom sailing and motor yachts, classic or modern, between 26 and 90 meters. The yard was awarded the Royal seal by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 1984. The award of the “Royal” warrant gave recognition to 100 years of quality and excellence – a highly prized accolade and one that is earned neither rapidly nor easily. This long heritage of Dutch maritime engineering has invested the yard with a culture of perfectionism that applies itself as much to leading-edge technologies as it does to traditional practices. Royal Huisman’s Intelligent EngineeringTM blends infrastructure, expertise, specialist skills and technologies in the optimal manner for each individual project. Continual investment in the yard’s 30,000m2 purpose-built facilities keep it at forefront of custom yacht-building. Fabrication takes place in a 30,000 m2 purpose-built shipyard where advanced technologies complement traditional Dutch craftsmanship.
Some bespoke yachts are the 47 meter sloop, Hyperion, the 90 meter three mast schooner Athena,[2] the 58 meter ketch Ethereal with hybrid propulsion,[3] and the replica of the Super J-class yacht Endeavour II, Hanuman.[4] and the 57.5 meter performance flybridge ketch Twizzle.[5]
